How It Works
The following steps explain how the stylists and bathers at Pet Care Specialists deliver a high quality grooming service while providing the extra personal care and attention that your companion animal deserves.

Welcome Chat
When you drop off your pet, our professional pet stylists will come out to evaluate your pet and discuss your preferences for a pet style. We have a booklet that shows many popular hairstyles for a few of the most popular breeds, and you may feel free to choose a trim from the book or create a customized look by letting the groomer know exactly what you want.

Time To Relax
After dropping your pet off, they are given a few minutes to relax in our condo area, where they are safely kept separated from other pets in a clean environment. During this time, they can watch a pet appropriate movie from our library of videos, providing a relaxing home-like background sound.

We constantly monitor all the pets in this area to ensure comfort and happiness in this safe environment. Most pets prefer having a condo to call their own during their stay as it provides them a den-like comfort which is a natural desire that most pets seek at home as well as elsewhere.

The Trim
After your pet stylist has cleaned the grooming table, it is time to begin work on your pet. We begin by doing a "roughing-in." This process involves beginning the pattern or trim by cutting the hair to the appropriate length for your chosen style. We do a full brush out during this part of the groom because allowing any matts to become wet will tighten them and cause them to become more difficult or impossible to brush out.

Plenty Of Breaks
Between each section of the grooming process, we allow your pet a short break in our condo area. The pets appreciate this little rest and often take short naps, then come out happy and ready for the next step.

Bath Time
Now your pet is ready for its bath. We begin this step by trimming the toenails, and filing, if requested. Next we clean out the ears. Some breeds require ear plucking to remove the excess hair which can trap ear wax and lead to chronic infections. After the ear cleaning, we place cotton balls in the pets' ears to protect against water entering the ear canal. Then we begin the bath.

Beginning with the face, we use a hypoallergenic tearless shampoo specially ph-balanced for pets and thoroughly clean the entire head, paying special attention to any folds in the skin and the areas around the eyes, ears, and mouth where debris may build up.

Next comes the Hydro-Surge bathing treatment. After selecting a shampoo appropriate for your pets specific skin and coat, we begin this luxurious, massaging bath. Our bathers love to see how relaxed the pets become with this treatment. It truly is like a day at the spa for them, and is especially beneficial for dogs with sore muscles or painful joints. After your pet is fresh and clean, we use a crème rinse on each animal to smooth the coat, reduce static, and soothe dry skin.

Fluff Me Up!
Now your pet is ready for the drying process. We begin by getting a fresh towel and removing all excess water. The next step is the velocity dryer, which blows out any undercoat that your pet may be shedding and allows air to get all the way through to the skin, which is vital for a pet to improve skin and coat health. Then we go on to fluff drying. During this process, we brush the coat while using a soothing air flow which allows us to straighten the fur and eventually create a beautiful finished look on your pet’s groom.

Fluff drying is one of the most important steps in making your pet look his or her best. It is unfortunately also one of the most skipped steps at other salons. We pride ourselves on doing our absolute best to create a wonderful look for your pet, and will not cut corners to save time.

When your pet is dry, it is ready to be finished. This is when we make your furry friend look his or her personal best by grooming him to your specifications. This may be simple clipper work with a scissor finish to clean up the lines, or a more involved style with extensive scissoring or hand-stripping. Our certified groomers are knowledgeable in how to create the look you desire and they all have excellent finishing skills. If you like, we can also provide nail polishing service at this time.
