Diseases
of the ear usually stem from over-production
of wax that occurs in response to irritation.
Allergic skin disease affecting the ears
is one possible cause. Other causes of
ear infection include ear mites, foreign
bodies such as grass awns, foxtails or
hair growth deep in the canal. This type
of reaction is typical in poodles and
schnauzers. The moisture of the wax promotes
bacterial growth and infection with pus
following causing discomfort to the companion
animal.
Severe ear infections can spread to the feet, then the mouth and possibly the eyes, eventually leading to a skin infection spread all over the pet's body. This causes an unpleasant, sour odor, discolored skin with bald patches, swollen skin (especially around the feet), bleeding where the skin is swollen tightly, and overall discomfort.
At Pet Care Specialists we throroughly flush the ear canel and remove overgrown hair in the ears to help the overall health of your companion animal.
